The average listing price for homes for sale in Athens GA was $230,421 for the week ending May 13, which represents an increase of 0.3%, or $683, compared to the prior week.
This low distressed sales figure for the Athens housing market backs up the fact that for the overall local market, pricing has maintained fairly well during this downturn in comparison to most of the U.S. where distressed sales have wrought huge pricing declines. In comparison, while less than 1 in 10 homes (9.4%) is a distressed property sale in Athens, GA, right down the road in Gainesville distressed sales are more than 20% of the market. In the Greater Atlanta area the number skyrockets to 44% while in Augusta Georgia 33% of homes are in a distressed sales situation.
